Required Elements

Certain items are required on UCO web pages in order to identify each as an official UCO page.

Item 1.  The first required element on an official UCO page is a link back to the UCO home page at http://www.ucok.edu.  This can be an image or text.  If an image is used, developers are being encouraged to use one of the following graphics as their link back to the home page.

Path:  http://technology.ucok.edu/images/uco_logo_top.jpg

Path:  http://technology.ucok.edu/images/uco_logo_bot.jpg

How do I add this graphic to my page?   Sites developed using the CMS will have this item as a part of the template on which each page is based.  Sites developed using FrontPage can place your cursor in the position you want the graphic to display, click Insert, Picture, From File.  Enter the identified path as the file name and click Insert.  FrontPage will display a message "...Contacting Server...".  Then, click CANCEL when the username/password box appears.  When the message "... Do you want to open a read only copy?"  appears, click YES.  By inserting the graphic this way, anytime a change is made to the graphic, your pages will automatically reflect that change.

How do I make this graphic link to the UCO home page?  Sites developed using the CMS will have this item as a part of the template on which each page is based.  For sites developed using FrontPage, select the graphic then click Insert Hyperlink and enter "http://www.ucok.edu" as the address.

Item 2.  The second required element of an official page is the date the page was last updated.  Developers are encouraged to use the FrontPage robot to include this information at the bottom of a page.  Click Insert, Date and Time.  Then select "Date this page was last edited."  Date format and time inclusion can be determined by the developer.

This page last updated Monday, February 05, 2007 09:26:27 AM -0600 .

Item 3.  The third required element on an official page is contact information for the content contributor or manager.  You are encouraged to include an email address so that a user may contact the department for more information or assistance.

Send comments to the Web Developer.

Item 4.   The fourth required element on an official page is to have links to pages outside of the UCO domain open in a new window.  Developers are encouraged to use the provided JavaScript or at a minimum have the hyperlink open in a blank window.

How do I use the provided JavaScript to open the page in a new window? Detailed instructions for using the provided Java Script are located on the "Opening an external link" document.

How can I have the hyperlink open in a blank window?  Using FrontPage, insert the hyperlink by clicking on Insert, Hyperlink.  Once the text to display is entered and the address is given, click on the "Target Frame" button.  Select New Window from the available options and click OK.  Click OK to close the "Insert Hyperlink" dialog box.  (This item is being deprecated due to disability access issues.  Please check back later for specific details.)
