WebCT

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to install anything on my computer to use WebCT?

You should have everything you need already installed. The main component of WebCT is the Java Runtime Environment. When you first access WebCT it will run a quick browser check to ensure you have the required features enabled. If you need to install Java click here and follow the link for the software download on the main page.

WebCT also uses pop up windows to deliver some content. We recommend turning off any pop up blockers you might have installed (Google or Yahoo Toolbars, or Internet Explorer's built in blocker.) You do not need to uninstall them, just disable it as you are working inside WebCT. This is not a required step but you could miss important information if pop up windows are blocked.

Why do see a page titled "Course Homepage" that does not look like WebCT?

The instructor for your class must enable WebCT use before it can be accessed. If the course is not opening in a new window WebCT is probably not enabled for your class. You should contact your instructor to ensure that WebCT will be used. The page you are seeing is a default course homepage within UCONNNECT that also allows for sharing of files, and communications to students.
