WebCT Campus Edition 6

What is WebCT Campus Edition 6?

WebCT (Web Course Tools) is a software suite that is hosted by the university for use in traditional, hybrid (blended) and fully online courses.

With WebCT Instructors are able to post online files such as the course syllabus, study guides or lecture notes. WebCT also allows for online quizzes, assignments, class mail and discussion boards.

How do I access WebCT?

To access WebCT students and faculty will login to UCONNECT. If your course uses WebCT you can access it by clicking on the My Courses tab, and then clicking the Click here to link. Clicking on the blue title of your course will take you into the WebCT site for that course. It should open in a new window and you can then navigate your course.

If you click on the name of your course and it opens in the same window with a "Course Homepage" then WebCT access has not been enabled. The instructor might still be working on the information in the course.

Do I need to install anything on my home computer to use WebCT?

You should have everything you need already installed. The main component of WebCT is the Java Runtime Environment. When you first access WebCT it will run a quick browser check to ensure you have the required features enabled. If you need to install Java click here and follow the link for the software download on the main page.

When you first access WebCT you should receive a notification to accept the license from WebCT. Please click yes, this will allow you to continue to connect to WebCT using the ideal settings for your machine.

WebCT also uses pop up windows to deliver some content. We recommend turning off any pop up blockers you might have installed (Google or Yahoo Toolbars, or Internet Explorer's built in blocker.) You do not need to uninstall them, just disable it as you are working inside WebCT. This is not a required step but you could miss important information if pop up windows are blocked.
