What is Turnitin.com?
Turnitin.com is a suite of helpful tools for
both students and instructors. There are four main components of the
Turnitin.com software.
Plagiarism Prevention - Allows both
instructors and students to submit papers to the Turnitin.com plagiarism
prevention engine. This tool quickly and powerfully searches internet sources,
thousands of previously submitted student papers as well as commercial databases
of journal articles and publications. The results are then reported back in an
easy to understand format including links to the original source if any are available.
Grade Mark - A unique digital markup system
that allows for paperless editing, grading, and markup without modifying the
original document.
Grade Book - Manage your grades and
assignments online. Includes reporting interfaces, an attendance function as
well as easy exporting to an Excel spreadsheet. If you are using Turnitin.com
integrated with WebCT the grades from your Turnitin.com assignments
are automatically entered in your WebCT grade book.
Peer Review * - Students can review and
respond to their classmates' work online. Peer review makes a digital classroom
where students can learn from and review the work of their fellow students.
* The Peer Review is function is
only supported through the Turnitin.com Website, not through integration with
WebCT
How do I begin using Turnitin.com?
If you are are already using WebCT for your class
Turnitin.com is integrated inside the course environment. You can easily
create assignments, record grades and use the Grade Mark function all
from within the WebCT system.
If you have not used Turnitin.com before and are not using WebCT
you will need to set up an account and join the University's master account.
Once this step is completed you can then begin to create classes and add
assignments.
