Hardware Standards/Purchasing

The UCO Office of Information Technology has established minimum hardware and software standards that must be met for any new computer purchases.  To view UCO's current minimum standards, please click below.

Minimum computer standards - Q1 FY2009
Desktop
Processor:   Any processor with at least two physical cores, including but not limited to the following:
 - Intel Core 2 Duo, Core 2 Quad
 - Intel Pentium Dual Core E-series
 - Quad Core Intel Xeon, Dual Core Intel Xeon
Memory:   2 GB (1024 MB)
Hard drive:   80 GB 7200rpm
  (5400rpm for Apple Mac Mini)
Optical drive:   DVD/RW (DVD burner)
Monitor:   17-inch
Operating system:   Microsoft Windows XP Professional or Tablet PC Edition
Apple Mac OS X 10.5 + OS X Maintenance, 3 years
Warranty/service:   4-year warranty with 4-year Next Business Day onsite service
(3-year AppleCare Protection Plan for Apple computers)
Laptop
Processor:   Any processor with at least two physical cores, including but not limited to the following:

Hard drive:   40 GB, 5400rpm or faster
(exceptions for 4200rpm on a case-by-case basis)

Operating system:   Microsoft Windows XP Professional or Tablet PC Edition

The University of Central Oklahoma only purchases computers from tier-1 vendors.  This enables UCO to efficiently purchase high-quality hardware backed by top-level service and support.  The primary vendors that UCO uses for computer purchases are Dell, Gateway, and Apple.  Following are recommended Dell configurations in Adobe PDF format.  Links to each vendor's UCO or State of Oklahoma contract pricing website are also provided below.
